We’re getting old.

While everyone is obsessed with staying young, I’m looking forward to growing old. Recently, I sat down to do my makeup and thought about how my makeup routine needs a little reworking lately. The older I’m getting, the more I realize my skin is changing, my face is changing, and the way I approach beauty needs to shift with me. And to be very honest, I’m actually ok with that.

I’ve noticed that my skin is more mature now. It’s not the same as it was before, and that means the makeup that used to work for me doesn’t always hit the same way anymore. So instead of forcing old habits, I’m learning to reconfigure. That’s why I’m drawn to a lighter face these days. I’m not trying to beat my face just to sit at home and create content. I want to look refreshed. I want to look like myself, just a little more polished.I think there’s something beautiful about getting to that point where you stop chasing perfection and start asking, “What actually works for me now?”

“I’m not afraid of aging”

If anything, I’m looking forward to it.I know some people get nervous when they think about getting older, but I don’t feel that way. I’m 38, and I can honestly say I’m excited to see what 45, 50, and beyond look like for me. I feel like the older I get, the more I learn about myself. The more I trust myself. The more grounded I become. And I love that.Aging, to me, isn’t just about getting older. It’s about becoming more of who I already am. It’s about confidence. It’s about wisdom. It’s about getting to a place where I know what I like, what I don’t, and what I’m no longer willing to do.

That’s really the goal.I don’t just want to get older — I want to age well. I want to be one of those women who still feels vibrant, beautiful, and active at 75. I want to be the aunt, the mother, the grandmother, the woman that somebody younger looks at and says, “She’s still got it.”That image matters to me because I’ve seen it. I’ve seen women in my family age with so much style, grace, and strength. My mother, my aunts, my grandmother — they’ve all shown me that older women can still be fly, still be on top of things, still have presence. That’s the kind of aging I want for myself.

Aging well isn’t only about makeup. It’s also about how I treat my body.I’ve been thinking more seriously about movement, health, and consistency. I work from home, so it’s easy to sit down all day and let time pass without really moving. But I know that if I want to feel good later, I have to take care of myself now. That’s part of why I started going to Hotworx. Not because I’m trying to punish myself or obsess over weight loss, but because movement matters. The older you get, the more important it becomes to stay active. I don’t want to be stiff, hurting, or breaking down when I’m older. I want to be able to move through life with energy.I’ve also seen firsthand how health issues can change a person’s quality of life. That makes me even more intentional about trying to do what I can while I can.

One thing I’ve realized is that I don’t need to do the most every day. I don’t need super thick lashes. I don’t need a heavy face. I don’t need to wear makeup like I’m trying to prove something.Sometimes I just want a quick, light look that lets me feel put together while still looking like me. That means choosing products that make sense for my skin, my energy, and the kind of day I’m having.I’m learning to use what I have, buy what works, and stop overcomplicating things. That kind of honesty feels freeing.

Aging has a way of making everything clearer. It’s made me more aware of my health. More aware of my face. More aware of what I want. More aware of the kind of woman I’m becoming. And instead of resisting that, I want to honor it.I want to age with confidence. I want to age with style. I want to age with joy. I want to keep learning myself, trusting myself, and becoming more rooted in who I am. So yes, maybe my makeup routine needs to change. But maybe that’s just part of the beauty of growing older. And I’m here for it.
